RFID technology provides security for food
Thai aquaculture uses RFID to track seafood
in order to distinguish a large number of shrimp products from different farms, a Thai RFID application company, ie technology company, has been studying how to implant RFID chips into the plastic boxes used in fishing grounds and intermediate markets before distributing shrimp to various processing sites, so as to understand the "context" of shrimp
this study aims to support the second phase of the food tracking program jointly carried out by the Ministry of agriculture and the Ministry of science and technology of Thailand. This plan enables producers, kitchen staff and even ordinary consumers to understand the source and processing of food to ensure food safety
Naiyavudwongkomet, general manager of IE company, said: "Shrimp is usually packed in boxes and transported from the fishery to the market, then mixed according to size, and finally loaded into large containers. In the process of transportation, people load shrimp from one box to another box, and then to other places. Although the farm has installed an automatic system to store shrimp data, these data will inevitably be confused in the processing process, resulting in the inability to determine which fishery shrimp is loaded in the box."in order to solve this problem, the company has studied inserting RFID chips into plastic boxes. Each box used in fishing grounds, intermediate markets and processing plants is implanted with this chip, which is used to store all data related to shrimp, including origin, species, disease records and the use of supplementary protein
Naiyavudwongkomet said, "barcode is afraid of water and can only be used within a certain temperature range. There are no such concerns when using RFID chip. More importantly, the speed of reading and transmitting data of RFID chip is unmatched by barcode."the fixture needed by IE technology company is 5 flowers and 8 doors. Apiwatthongprasert, a consultant of business development department, said: "It is not easy to implant the RFID chip into the plastic box, because before sealing the box with resin, the chip must be placed in one of the many holes. The sealed box needs to use an appropriate amount of resin, and the data transmission must be able to penetrate the seal. In order to make the box with RFID implanted widely used, we are considering embedding the chip in the box molding process, but this requires broader cooperation."
Apiwat said that the chip used in the food tracking program was developed by silicon technology company, which was the first company in Thailand to design RFID chips. This chip is 134.2 kHz, passive and low-frequency. Its advantage is that it is afraid of water and low temperature until the rest of the chip cannot continue to transfer the load, and it allows wireless data reading. IE technology company also developed an RFID reader that is not afraid of ice and water. In order to adapt it to the daily work of the shrimp market, the company has designed two types of fixed and portable from the beginning, which are the range of ductility - the material keeps plastic deformation without fracture. The fixed reader can read the data in the chip implanted in the box, and the portable reader can double check the data in the chip to prevent any possible errors. Once the shrimp in the box is confused, the interpreter can scan the box by box until the last box is scanned before copying the information. He said: "the interpreter cannot accurately show which fishery the shrimp in the box belongs to, but through the data cloned from one box to another, the manufacturer can accurately know how many fisheries the shrimp in each box comes from. This helps to shorten the tracking process."since shrimp importers and exporters have to submit ds-2031 declaration form to the Ministry of fisheries to obtain the license for this business before applying antirust oil, the relevant authorities plan to allow these importers and exporters to submit forms and receive licenses. The identification number assigned by the Fishery Bureau to the company will be stored in the RFID chip embedded in the box. In this way, when tracing back, we can find out the source of the shrimp in the box. In order to complete the process of tracking boxes, FXa group is developing software that can manage RFID information flow. FXa, a food industry software company, has developed a network-based data tracking software, which enables agricultural exporters to collect and track all information related to their product processing through electronic technology
RFID will become a sword to ensure food safety
many developed countries attach great importance to food safety. In addition to establishing relevant legal systems, they also use high-tech means to manage food safety. For example, Japan has established a "food ID card system", that is, a product resume and tracking and monitoring system, requiring the production, circulation and other departments to widely adopt electronic labels such as bar code technology and radio frequency identification technology, which are used to record various data in the production and circulation process of products in detail
in foreign countries, many feedlots have used RFID tags to monitor the basic conditions of livestock and animals in the whole process (such as growth, health, circulation process, etc.), so as to form a complete industrial chain food safety control system. Its principle is to apply RFID + bar code technology throughout food safety (breeding pigs → breeding → slaughtering → segmentation → small packaging → transportation → dining table), and strictly control the whole process of the industrial chain, Ensure to provide the market with high-quality assured meat food. Once the pork sold has quality problems, the whole process of information tracking and supervision can be realized according to the labels of pork packaging
the first application of RFID technology in the fresh food industry has also appeared in Australia. Moraitis is cooperating with IBM to use RFID tracking system. The RFID system will provide detailed information about the origin, packaging date, variety, quality and size of tomatoes shipped from Moraitis every day
Sysco, the largest food service marketing and distribution organization in North America, has completed the radio frequency (RFID) and sensing system testing of the cryogenic storage and transportation system. This test proved the ability of RFID to monitor temperature and environmental conditions during food transportation, and made a big step forward in ensuring food quality and safety
in the UK, trenstar and scottishcouragebrewing showed how to use RFID tags to better track wine cans. Wine manufacturers can also use RFID tags of sensing technology to monitor the temperature changes in the environment of wine barrels that can affect the quality of wine products
in terms of anti-counterfeiting, the wine cannot be unpacked on the spot to check its authenticity, which provides an opportunity for counterfeiters. Sassicaia's manufacturers are further considering adding RFID chips to the labels of wine bottles in order to prevent the impact of counterfeits
in China, RFID technology is also applied to food safety tracking management. For example, Zhejiang Provincial Fisheries Bureau, Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of technical supervision and the organic food development center of the State Environmental Protection Administration also jointly launched the intelligent anti-counterfeiting card for fish products - Qiandao Lake "Chun" Organic Fish ID card for the first time in the domestic aquaculture industry this year, realizing the whole process quality tracking management from water body to table
